This elective class is all about finding what’s funny and heightening the humor to a comedic climax.
The “game” is a foundational funny idea at the heart of a scene that provides a path to maximizing the scene’s comedic potential. Applying the game in improv can produce scenes with the focus and polish of scripted sketch comedy.
Students will learn how to identify and heighten the game of the scene:
-Simplifying scenes by collaboratively honing in one fun, unusual thing at a time
-Making choices that support and advance the fun – with emphasis on patterns, logical-absurd dynamics, and longform devices
-Implementing game-focused techniques in both standalone scenes and within cohesive longform pieces.
