Description
This entertaining workshop is designed to encourage participants to identify and trust their creative instincts. Through playful physical and verbal improvisation, imagination exercises, body awareness work, and live performance, participants will examine their personal ways of making, choosing, and designing in order to develop confidence in their own unique creative thinking process.
Focusing on self-awareness, we will explore the inner workings of the tools of the teller; voice, body, words, imagination and metaphor. Through demonstration, improvisation, and discussion we will explore the essence of story performance, story composition, narrator/character dialogue, stage presence, self-direction, and the power of metaphor.
Heather Forest, is a modern-day bard who has appeared in theatres, schools, literature conferences, and storytelling festivals throughout the United States and abroad. Her dynamic fusion of original music, poetry, and the sung and spoken word brings multicultural folktales to life in the imagination of her listeners. She has shared her unique storytelling works at The National Storytelling Festival, TN, the Museum of Modern Art, N.Y., the Discovery Theatre at the Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C., and at international festivals including the Sidmouth Folk Festival, England, Tales of Graz, Austria, and at the Glistening Waters Storytelling Festival, New Zealand. She has published eighteen folktale recordings and books and has won an American Library Association Notable Record Award, two Parent’s Choice Gold Awards, and five Storytelling World Honor Awards. A pioneer in the American storytelling renaissance, Heather Forest is a recipient of the Circle of Excellence ORACLE Award presented by the National Storytelling Network, U.S.A. for performance skill and the 2021 Talking Leaves Award for her contributions to storytelling literature.
