Jake's Story:  Jake Adam Hescock collapsed on December 6, 2022 after suffering from sudden cardiac arrest. An amazing bystander began to do CPR while they waited for the ambulance. Sadly an AED was not used on Jake and could have made a crucial difference in those minutes. Jake was then brought to Mass General Hospital where he was placed on ECMO (a system that replaces the functional of your heart and lungs) for the next five days. The longest five days of our lives. After those five days and many, many tests we found that Jake had a severe anoxic brain injury and that he would most likely not make it. On December 11, 2022 as Jake’s family was making their final decision, Jake made that decision with them as well. Jake passed away with his loving family by his side.

Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Jake, knew that he was one of a kind. He was the brightest light and our most devastating loss. While he was alive he played six years of Division I football, sharing all of his love and light, making connections across the country. Jake was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and just genuinely loved life. He could always make you feel better on a bad day. If you were a stranger, he would welcome you with open arms and make you feel like a part of the group in minutes.

We do not share our story for pity or for your sadness but we share it to continue to spread Jake’s legacy. We share our story with the hopes that you will get basic life support training, learning CPR and AED skills that could save a life. We share our story with hopes that you may get your child tested for cardiac anomalies. We share our story to share his light.
