Description

This workshop takes place on two Saturdays 1 - 5 pm

PART I:  The Recycled Print:  Papermaking (6/22)

In this workshop, students will make sheets of paper that they can print on during the second part of the workshop on (6/29). Students will learn the fundamentals of making paper by hand and gain an understanding of the unique qualities of handmade paper for printmaking.  Handmade paper is often made from recycled fibers.  Pulps from this course will be made from printmaking paper cut offs, used archival blotters, Kraft and shipping papers which are mixed with cotton and abaca fiber to provide strength and durability.  Additional fibers and pigments will be added for texture and color.  Students can expect to make a small stack of handmade paper sheets, ranging in size from 5 x 7" to 10 x 14".  The papers will be restraint dried and available for printing by one week after the end of the workshop.

PART II:  The Recycled Print:  Printing on Handmade Paper

Printing onto our handmade paper from the previous Saturday’s (6/22) papermaking workshop, students will create unique one-of-a-kind printing plates with the up-cycled packaging material Tetra Pak and recycled plastics. Often used to package soups, stocks and other shelf stable liquids, Tetra Pak also makes an eco and budget friendly printing plate. Plastic food packaging will also be utilized.

After an introduction to the technique with printed samples and demo plates, students will receive material and create their own plates. We’ll use the second part of the afternoon to explore inking and printing these plates onto your handmade paper with a traditional etching press.

Tuition for both sessions: $250.00 (if you are unable to attend both, you may be able to attend one on a space available basis, contact the organizer: lineapaper@gmail.com)

Both workshops will take place at Anchorlight, an artist studio complex and gallery
