JO JO RAINWATER:
Jojo Rainwater has an authentic Southern American sound, best described as toe-tapping bluesy tunes some of which are performed on homemade can/hubcap guitars.
He has something vivid and profound to say through his music and tales of his relatives from the early days.
His music is rootsy, bluesy, folk, gospel, with gutsy rhythms and has indigenous under tones. 'Memphis' as he is known by his friends in Australia, where he has resided since 1993, has taken a long journey with many a rough and winding road to find the real character and voice in his music and song writing.
The American singer/guitarist was born August 16th 1962 in Memphis Tennessee not far from the muddy Mississippi river.
No doubt he must have heard the sound of gospel and delta blues music in the air. Jojo's imagination was set to writing songs by the stories of his grandma who picked cotton as a little girl in the hot Mississippi summer sun and a grandpa who was a hopped trains during the great depression.
But his great grand mother on his fathers side was from the Ozark mountains in Arkansas, she was a 'Rainwater', which is Cherokee (inspired his new stage name). There was of course some Scottish and Irish mixed in. Jojo Rainwater has been consistently getting great reactions to his Southern style music and story telling to audiences locally and abroad. the launch of his latest album(Legends of Black Rock Mountain) is soon to be held at the 'Old Castlemaine Gaol (jail) possibly in march 2017 Album Review :
As told by JoJo Rainwater song writer/story teller the melodies carefully weave through the fabric of the old south influenced by tales mostly of grand parents/great grand parents who lived in early century America and survived those hard depression times. there is even a song about Johnny Dillinger notorious bank robber of that era. "Jeremiah" written about an ancestor of the 1800,s who was killed by wolves. The lyrics of this album are deeply contemplative of life , death, judgement and ultimately redemption. Each song similar to an old movie sound track visually leading you to the next scene. A unique body of work with appropriate vocal harmonies and musicianship which promises to leave listeners satisfied.
