Please join us at the Library at Journey Downtown for a night of fun! You can make this into a date night, a way to get together with friends or a way to meet new friends. You do not need to have an arts background to enjoy this class.
The art focus will be charcoal and shadowing.
Your ticket purchase will include the art instruction and all supplies needed as well as 1 drink token to be used in the bar and appetizers will be provided. There will be a no host bar for additional beverages for you to enjoy.
Doors will open at 5:30pm with the art instruction starting at 6:00pm. Appetizers will be served at 5:30 pm and the bar will open at that time.
We are excited to be partnering with Diana Bennett McLaughlin for this monthly event. She is an active member of our community and has an impressive background and experience. Below you will find a little information that Diana has shared with what you can expect in the class as well as a bit about her art background.
"You do not need to be a great artist to do Urban Sketching. It’s a fun and relaxing way to spend time indoors or out. I always take a few art supplies when I travel and sketch when I have “down time”.
I have always been involved in art, and have a BA in Art from UC Chico, a MA in Art from SDSU and a Ph.D. in Business Marketing, which I did for fun. I have been lucky enough to have taken classes from well-known artists over the past twenty years. I joined a sketching group when I lived in Washington that went out to different places every week. It’s faster and easier, and you don’t have to carry as much as painting Plein Air, which I enjoy additionally.
I was a professional interior designer for over 40 years and taught interior design at The Art Institute for about ten years before, it closed its doors. My book “Hand Drafting for Interior Design” is still used in many design schools all over the world. In my teaching career I taught drafting, rendering and many other art related classes.
I just want you to come, have fun, learn a few new things, make some new friends and enjoy the evening. No one will be graded, and I hope to help you improve a little bit! It will be fun!"
We look forward to seeing you soon and your Urban Sketches!
