Vanishing Murals of Port Townsend: A Walking Tour
Explore the echoes of Port Townsend’s past through its “ghost murals.” Once prevalent across America, large, colorful advertisements painted on buildings showcased everything from automobiles to everyday essentials. JCHS’s tour highlights these historical gems that still mark the downtown district, offering a vivid window into the town’s bustling 19th-century and early 20th-century life.
Guests will gain insights into the era's local businesses, buildings, and sign painters, as well as early modern advertising and Port Townsend's 1890s boom and bust. Join us for this unique take on a historic walking tour as we illuminate these murals within their historical and cultural contexts, bringing to life these silent storytellers and deepening appreciation for Port Townsend’s rich visual heritage. For this tour series, we are offering a special 35% discount for current JCHS members.
