What’s in the Whitney Library Program: Celebrating the New Haven Symphony Orchestra
Join us as we celebrate one of the oldest orchestras in the U.S., the New Haven Symphony, during the next What’s in the Whitney Library program, on Sat., Dec. 7, 12-4 p.m.! We’ll explore a fascinating collection of NHSO materials from our archives—including early invitations, programs, and photos dating from the orchestra’s beginning in 1831 to the 1980s! At 1:30 p.m. violinist Steven Song, a master’s student at the Yale School of Music, will perform classical works and holiday favorites and share some NHSO history in the rotunda!
Steven Song is a Master of Musical Arts Candidate at the Yale School of Music. He received a bachelor’s degree in music from Colburn Conservatory and a master’s degree in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music and studied at the Music Institute of Chicago. He has won numerous awards, and soloed with the Colburn Orchestra, Meadowmount Orchestra, Southern California Philharmonic, and the Music institute of Chicago Academy Orchestra, among others. He is a member of the New Haven Symphony and Symphony in C.
The Whitney Library in the New Haven Museum is open to anyone interested in the past of the city of New Haven. With tens of thousands of documents, books, and archives, the Whitney Library is the most expansive collection of New Haven texts in the city.
