“I’d give you some violets - but they withered all when my father died.”
After dying in the events of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Ophelia finds herself stuck somewhere between life and the afterlife, where she is told she must remain until she has come to terms with what - and who - drove her to take her own life. With the help of the dead jester Yorick, as well as several women from other Shakespeare works, Ophelia desperately searches for a method to the madness, and flowers for her bouquet. To be or not to be, she asks, except - no. That’s not hers.
A rich, engaging exploration of the inner workings of a character that has captivated audiences for centuries,
Withered All
asks its audience to listen, and shows us a girl who might’ve sounded far less mad - if only they had known what she was trying to say.
