The Wong Doe and Jones duo have been performing since 2015 and have recorded two albums for the HR Recordings label, “Cantabile, Vols 1 and 2” of rediscovered works for cello and piano. In 2025, they will record the Rachmaninoff and Prokofieff cello sonatas for HR and embark on a tour of Canada and the United States. This program features the Rachmaninoff Cello and Piano Sonata, along with a variety of rediscovered works by Vivaldi, Bruch, van Goens, Albeniz, and others.
Michael Kevin Jones studied cello at the Royal College of Music in London and won a scholarship to study at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf, Germany. His recording of J.S. Bach’s solo cello suites (EMEC label) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York received critical acclaim.
A native of New Zealand, Henry Wong Doe is a graduate of the Juilliard School, and has won prizes, including two “Audience Favorite” prizes at the Sydney, Busoni and Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competitions. He has released seven albums, four of which include new or recently composed works by New Zealand composers. Henry currently serves as Professor of Piano and Keyboard Area Chair at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
