Learn woodworking skills and build confidence in safe tool use by making a variety of self-directed projects! Woodchips is an open shop makerspace for youth ages 9 and above and their grown-up(s) to get experience in the trades by engaging in creative, hands-on learning with the guidance and support of experienced shop mentors.
Participants will select 1-2 simple projects to customize and build from our menu of options. Standard projects for beginners include a Lollipop Stand, Wooden Robot, Bird/Bee House or Tote/Trinket Box. As Woodchips advance, they can adapt, design, and tackle additional projects from our list or their imagination.
Participants must be accompanied by a responsible adult. One ticket per kid; limit 2 kids per grown-up. (Designated grown-ups may alternate chaperone responsibilities.)
The September '23 Woodchips Session includes 8 shop dates on Mondays and Wednesdays, where participants can drop-in at their convenience within a 2-hour time-frame. The shop mentor will also offer 2 make-up dates/ flex-sessions per participant as needed.
Please Note: This pilot session is being offered at a discounted rate. In addition to their 1-2 personal projects, participants will be making sample pieces for the shop and providing feedback as we continue to develop the Woodchips program.
