ZERENE JAADWA
Zerene Jaadwa (they/them) is a Queer, Non-Binary, Wutyubaluk musician and multidisciplinary artist from Ballaarat. Raised on Wadawurrung Country, Zerene draws inspiration from their rich cultural heritage and their passion for creating music that speaks to both personal and collective stories of resilience, identity, and community. Known for their unique blend of acoustic sounds and contemporary influences, Zerene’s music explores themes of connection, queerness, and cultural preservation. As a versatile artist involved in music production, performance, and activism, they bring a heartfelt and authentic voice to their work, creating soundscapes that invite listeners to reflect and engage with the world around them. In addition to their music, Zerene has worked extensively in community arts spaces, co-founding OUTLET Studio, an inclusive creative space for artists in Ballaarat, and performing at various cultural and activist events. Their work as an LGBTIQA+ Peer Support Worker at QHub and their involvement in the Ballarat 2023 Voice to Parliament: Yes Campaign underscore their commitment to advocacy through art. With a background in cultural consultancy, activism, and community work, Zerene has been recognized as the 2023 Anthan McCaw Young Activist of the Year. With a deep understanding of how music and storytelling can bridge divides and heal, Zerene’s performances are intimate, powerful, and rooted in their lived experiences as a First Nations person. Through their music, they continue to create spaces for self-expression, empowerment, and cultural continuity.
